One of the questions I hear the most before a photo session couple experience is:
“We are awkward in front of the camera… what should we do?”
And my answer is always the same:
You do not need to know how to pose perfectly to create beautiful and emotional photographs.
Most couples arrive at the beginning of the session feeling a little nervous. It is completely normal. Being photographed can feel vulnerable, especially when the session is focused on your relationship, your emotions, your connection, and your intimacy as a couple.
But the truth is that a beautiful photo session couple experience is not about standing side by side and smiling at the camera the entire time.
It is about capturing your story.
Your chemistry.
Your personalities.
The way you naturally look at each other.
The little gestures that happen without even thinking about them.
That is why my approach is always natural, relaxed, and focused on making couples feel comfortable before anything else.
So today I want to share a few of my secrets about how I create a relaxed and emotional photo session couple experience.

The first thing I do during every photo session couple experience is simply talk.
Not immediately photograph.
Not immediately pose.
Just talk.
I want to know who you are beyond the camera.
We talk about your story, your travels, how you met, your personalities, your wedding plans, your life together, your hobbies, or even random funny things. I usually approach my couples exactly the same way I would approach new friends.
This helps remove the pressure immediately.
The more comfortable you feel with me, the more natural and authentic your photographs will become.
One of my favorite moments during a photo session couple session is asking couples to tell each other how they met or talk about one of their favorite memories together.
Something magical always happens in that moment.
People stop thinking about the camera.
They start looking at each other naturally.
They laugh.
They become emotional.
They reconnect.
And those reactions are real.
Sometimes couples smile without even realizing it. Sometimes they start laughing. Sometimes they become quiet and emotional. Those are often the moments where the most meaningful images are created.

One of the easiest ways to help couples feel more relaxed during a photo session couple experience is encouraging closeness and physical connection.
When people feel nervous, they naturally create distance between themselves and their partner without realizing it.
I gently guide my couples to stay close:
Hold hands.
Lean into each other.
Wrap arms around each other.
Touch foreheads.
Hug naturally.
Walk slowly together.
Simple gestures create intimacy very quickly and help couples focus more on each other rather than on the camera.
Sometimes I also suggest little kisses:
A forehead kiss.
A cheek kiss.
A kiss on the shoulder.
A kiss on the neck.
A soft kiss on the lips.
These movements create natural interactions and help photographs feel alive, emotional, and authentic instead of overly posed.

One thing many couples do not realize is that they do not need to look directly into the camera all the time.
In fact, some of the most emotional and beautiful images happen when couples are focused entirely on each other.
During a photo session couple experience, I often guide couples to:
Look into each other’s eyes.
Close their eyes for a moment.
Look down naturally.
Whisper something.
Laugh together.
Walk while talking.
This creates movement, emotion, and genuine interaction instead of stiff posing.

Another thing that can really help during a photo session couple session is visual inspiration.
Sometimes I show couples a few poses, movements, or ideas from previous sessions or inspiration images I love. Pinterest can also be a wonderful tool before the session to discover the mood and style you are naturally drawn to.
I always encourage couples to share inspiration images with me before the shoot because it helps me better understand their personality, style, and vision.
At the same time, I never want couples to feel like they must perfectly recreate a pose. Inspiration is simply a starting point. The real beauty comes from your genuine connection and natural interaction.

At a certain point during the session, something changes.
The camera disappears.
The stress disappears.
And couples start having fun.
That is always my goal.
I want every photo session couple experience to feel less like “posing for photos” and more like spending quality time together while beautiful memories are being documented naturally.
Because years from now, these photographs will not only remind you of how you looked.
They will remind you of how you felt together in that exact moment of your life.

I am Laura, an Italian photographer with more than 10 years of experience photographing weddings, couples, and portraits with a natural and timeless approach. My work is deeply inspired by emotion, connection, cinema, fashion, travel, beautiful light, and authentic moments between people. Outside of photography, I love slow mornings with a cappuccino, traveling between Italy and the United States, discovering cozy coffee shops, art museums, beautiful interiors, and spending quiet time with my family.
My goal during every photo session couple experience is to create images that feel genuine, emotional, elegant, and true to your relationship while making you feel comfortable and fully yourselves in front of the camera.
