As a San Diego event photographer, I had the pleasure of capturing an elegant 40th birthday celebration at a stunning private property in Rancho Santa Fe. With around thirty guests, live guitar, and a murder mystery dinner planned by Bella Magic Events, the evening felt intimate and thoughtfully arranged.
A Private Setting for a Meaningful Celebration
There is something special about celebrating a milestone birthday at a private home. The setting becomes part of the story, offering a personal backdrop for time spent with friends and family.
For this celebration, the property provided a beautiful setting without taking attention away from the people gathered there. Conversations, shared laughter, and the atmosphere of the evening were just as meaningful to photograph as the surroundings.
With a smaller guest list, there was room to document those connections and notice the moments between the main activities.
Murder at the Hacienda
Planned by Bella Magic & Events, the evening featured a Murder at the Hacienda theme. A murder mystery dinner brought a playful element to the celebration, entertaining guests as they enjoyed the meal.
A guitarist accompanied the gathering, while the catering added to the experience with delicious food. Together, these elements created an evening that felt elegant, personal, and engaging.

San Diego Event Photographer with a Discreet Approach
My approach as a Rancho Santa Fe private event photographer is to document the celebration with a quiet, attentive presence. I combine candid photographs of guests with carefully composed images of the property and event details, creating a collection that reflects both the setting and the people within it.
For hosts, this means having space to enjoy the occasion while I capture the moments unfolding around them. For guests, it means a relaxed photography experience that allows conversations and interactions to happen naturally.
