It had been a couple of years since I had done a personal branding photoshoot. I relocated to Boulder last year and didn’t have many connections yet. So, I went looking for the perfect photographer to co-create my vision with. I had a clear idea of feeling and mood which was bohemian, natural, dreamy, ethereal, perceptive and powerful all at once. I also wanted a beautiful natural lighting and an epic setting in nature (not hard to find in Boulder!).
When I saw Laura’s work, I immediately felt a resonance with her and her work. I felt like our aesthetics and tastes matched. We jumped in and created a moodboard together. I told her about myself. My vision for our personal branding session was mostly centered around communicating a “bird’s eye perspective”; to include a visual hint at my Mayan astrological sign, the Eagle, which indicates my being an intermediary between heaven and earth and being able to see reality from a higher perspective. I do many different things, but what interweaves all of them together is my mission of integrating a cosmic perspective into human consciousness via the power of story. That is the undercurrent and motivating energy behind all my projects and expressions, and so that became the North Star for our first personal branding session.
Laura suggested shooting at Cathedral Park at sunset, which we attempted twice – the rain chased us away after only 15 minutes the first time! – but we came back and it was gorgeous. One of those epic, sultry summer nights in July. I was very happy with her work (not to mention how quick, graceful and organized she is!) and I felt like the photos really captured my essence.
Fast forward to six months later. Lots had happened for me and I was focusing even more on my professional emergence. I wanted some additional photos that didn’t just capture my essence, but also showcased me “in action”. Pictures that would capture not only my different professional outlets, but also my creative process. One of my gifts is creating content from first concept to final product, both behind and in front of the camera, and it’s that process that I wanted to demonstrate.
We decided to do another personal branding session. This time it was winter and we focused on being inside and on several different locations. I wanted to capture the variety of things that I do (conceptual ideation (incl. through meditation & spiritual practices), writing, producing, directing, speaking and acting). I created a moodboard with the different looks, props, and ideas per location. We had a meeting in advance as well to make sure we were on the same page. When our shoot day arrived, everything went smoothly and it took about 4 hours. Our stamina and endurance together was great. And, again, I was super happy with how we worked together and how the pictures turned out.
This past year initiated my professional emergence as a producer (at Gaia, a transformational streaming service), a speaker, a content creator, and an aspiring narrative filmmaker, on top of my being a writer, actress, and nonprofit founder (of the Conscious Performers Collective). After incessant pushing from the spiritual world (receiving guidance and direction through meditation), I created an Instagram account and YouTube channel called The Cosmic Perspective (@thecosmicperspective) to share wisdom and insight in the fields of metaphysics, human potential, and consciousness.
Laura has been an integral part of my blossoming by capturing my truth, my power and my service through her excellent photography. I couldn’t recommend her more. If you are considering working with her, don’t think any longer – go for it!
