One of the first things clients tell me before a session is,
“I’m not good in front of the camera.” And I always smile — because that’s exactly why they came to me. As a Boulder portrait photographer, my job isn’t just to take photos. It’s to create a calm, comfortable space where you don’t have to perform, pretend, or know what to do with your hands.
And that’s normal.
You’re not a model. You’re a real person, with your own personality, energy, and way of moving. Expecting yourself to suddenly know how to pose is unnecessary pressure — and pressure never leads to beautiful photos. That’s why I don’t believe in forced poses or stiff directions.
Beautiful portraits come from:
feeling at ease
trusting the person behind the camera
having time to breathe and settle into the moment
During a session, I guide you gently. Sometimes that means small movements, sometimes it means stillness. I pay attention to light, posture, and expression so you don’t have to think about any of it.
You just show up as you are.
Many of my clients are women who haven’t been photographed in years. Some are in a new season of life. Some simply want a portrait that feels honest and elegant.
As a Boulder portrait photographer, I focus on creating images that feel timeless and true — not trendy or overly posed.
Often, the best moments happen when you forget the camera is even there. I always begin with the simplest poses — the ones that consistently work and help you ease into the session. After a few minutes, once that foundation is set, I like to bring in inspiration. Together, we look at a few reference images and, based on your personality, we decide what direction feels right. It might be something casual and relaxed, something more glamorous with subtle Vogue-inspired energy, or something playful and light. That’s when the session becomes a conversation, and we start to play.
Confidence doesn’t come first.
It comes after — when you see yourself in a way you may not have before.
If you’ve been waiting to feel “ready” to book a portrait session, this is your reminder: you already are.
You don’t need to know how to pose to look beautiful in photos.
That’s my job.
Let’s capture your story together.
